"I know it's a blindspot of mine..."

How many times have you heard a colleague or leader say this, only to continue repeating the exact same damaging behavior?

Awareness is not a "hall pass" to continue the behavior. Simply giving your bad habits a name doesn't fix them.

When self-awareness is used as an excuse, it damages team trust. To stop the cycle, you need more than just a realization. You need a replacement.

  • ✔ You need the skills to act differently.
  • ✔ You need an environment to practice both failing and learning.
  • ✔ You need honest feedback to know if you are actually improving.

It is easy to see this in others and difficult to see in ourselves. So pause a minute to turn the mirror around. "Am I using my self-awareness as a tool for growth or an excuse to stay the same?"
