You’ve built your identity around results. You are known for execution, efficiency, and getting things done.
But eventually, you hit a hidden ceiling.
You know you’re there when you become the bottleneck for decisions. When you are the only one who can decide, the business hits its speed limit.
And driving harder won't remove this ceiling. Unfortunately, your leadership is holding back your organization’s capacity.
To break the bottleneck, you have to rely on a different muscle: Trust.
It takes time to build, so start small:
- Practice controlled discomfort: Start delegating decisions that make you only slightly nervous. These stretch moments train your nervous system to return to a state of calm when you aren't the one with the final say.
- Shorten the bounce-back: When a delegated decision goes wrong, don’t immediately take the reins back. Use it to build more capacity into your team, and grow trust for the next round.
Start building the muscle with a few practice reps.
Look at your calendar for this week. What is one decision you are currently holding onto that you need to hand over to your team?
